STICKS & STONES

This is fun. Ladies and gentleman, we would like to share a little secret circulating in Sydney’s creative industry. It goes by the name of Sticks & Stones and it comes around once a month. They will be, without a doubt, a dream come true for all you emerging artists in the fashion and arts industries. Spawned by a couple with a steep history of modeling and designing, Gian Reyes and Yasmin Walter, Sticks & Stones is breaking the mould of marketing tradition, and opting to branch out into the nightlife scene to merge the people who like to gossip and a penchant for fashion, with the artists out there waiting to be showcased. Their edgy yet professional approach to everyone they take under their wing caught our attention, with public relations being their forte to streamline the relationship between designer/artist and the public with the use of launch parties in particular. Even the Sticks & Stones cheeky marketing scheme is proof in the pudding, filled with fun and flirty puns to make you chuckle.

Yasmin knows the amount of work that goes into orchestrating a fashion show, from invitations to models, catering and entertainment: “We can organize all of this for them and take some stress away.”
Having said all this, Sticks & Stones prides themselves on their sense of community and inclusion of everyone, eradicating the stuck-up mentality which is evident in the industry, by making the point that “not everyone has access to fashion shows and secret launches, but that doesn’t mean we love fashion any less. We want to grant access to all fashionistas out there.” Despite all this, their VIP entry fee is $100 – and before you get turned off, Gian explains how you’ve got to give the best quality experience to make that crucial first impression and give something back to followers, without making any compromises – “we wanted to provide the drinks, the canapes, that exclusive feeling. VIP’s get a whole level to themselves, 150 guests, they are waited on all night and they get a little giftbag to take home.” And who doesn’t like a bit of pampering as they window shop an array of clothing? And if you don’t need all the bells and whistles, S&S have a $35 entry fee option also. As Gian explains, “We really wanted to make it easier for local brands to get noticed and we know how tough it is for new designers to get attention, especially if they don’t have the right contacts. I just want to be able to say ‘Wow I really love what you’re doing, we have a crowd that would be really interested in it, let’s showcase your brand next month’.”

So without further ado, put this in your diary. Sticks & Stones opens its doors on the 19th of May at the Oxford Hotel, Darlinghurst bringing you the brand Show Pony, and enjoy a new experience and score an invite at www.sticksnstones.net.au.
