MEANWHILE AT PROVINCE
The girls from Province have been the busiest bees in town. Not only are they exhibiting at Carriageworks, they are bringing some cheer to school holidays with painting workshops, plus they have managed to set up their very own online shop…phew!
Anne-Louise Dadak and Laura Pike are forging on and leaving their customised artistic imprint on a series of limited-edition bags for sale in a purpose-built space at Carriageworks. The concept for Totes is simple; totally great bags made by totally great artists. Carriageworks had commissioned these limited edition tote bags for Australia’s most exciting artists and designers including Pip & Pop, Louise Tuckwell, Eager & Vane, Rittenhouse, Amanda Picman, Sian McIntyre and Province.
Carriageworks presents Here and Now, a series of four projects curated by Liane Rossler. It offers new commissions and limited edition works by Australian artists and designers, with an innate spirit of the experimental. Each of the four projects is organised around one concept and will be shown in a custom-made space. With a completely new look every three months, the concepts for 2013 are Useful, Totes, Lucky and Star.
The totes represent the Province philosophy of patterning and the handmade, with a healthy mix of Australian-sourced hemp, water-based plants, local suppliers and reused materials. The totes are available for exclusive purchase at Carriageworks until 10th June, 2013. To learn more visit the Carriageworks website.
School holidays are well and truly on their way and even Province are getting their hand stuck in. They’re offering a one-off workshop at Koskela for kids who like to mess around with colour. The exciting lessons for 6-12 year olds teach basic painting techniques, colour theory and sketching. The kids will learn by painting pots, transforming everyday objects into something colourful and precious. It’s a one-day affair on 21st April, 2013 so book your spot as soon as possible. All the information for the workshop is right here.
The ever-dedicated Province dynamos have also welcomed the launch of their online shop! From limited-edition prints, homewares, stationery and jewellery – everything in the shop is a one-off and handmade in the studio by the girls themselves from local or reused materials. The offerings celebrate colour, organic materials and beautiful patterning with exclusive prints from their exhibitions on sale also. Prices start at just $16 and you’d be supporting a truly great local cause. So what are you waiting for? Get shopping! Visit the Province online shop.
